The Lent is that priviliged period of time during a liturgical year when the belivers’ prepare for participating to the drama of suffering and to the enlightenment provided by preparation which the Resurrection of Jesus during the Week of Suffering, takes the shape of an ascetic anticipation of Easter. During the forty days of severe fast, watch and tenacious prayer belivers are striving hard within themselves so as to clean and re-establish their common nature which has been defiled and exhausted in sin. This spiritual effort during the Lent is accompanied according to the tradition of our mother Church by hymnography and by the spiritual teaching of the Triodion, the Mess of the Holy Gifts, the Great Canon of Saint Andrew of Crete and the Prayer of saint Ephren The Syrul.
